What Is The READY! Program?
Often parents wonder what a typical 5-year old should know on the first day of school...
READY! for Kindergarten classes encourage parents and caregivers to talk, sing, read and play with their child in simple ways that foster essential pre-literacy, pre-math and social-emotional skills. Age appropriate activities are designed to start at birth and continue through age five. The curriculum is based on current research and replicates what parents and preschool educators of successful students have done for years.
The READY! program has developed Ready! Targets for each age level of pre-kindergarten learning. They are not requirements, but learning goals. The age level targets are the skills identified by research as having the highest correlation to success in school, specifically learning to read and do math. The target skills are broken down by age to help parents guide their children toward goals that are attainable for their level of development. Parents choose activities from READY! classes to enjoy at home based on their child's personality, abilities, interests, and their family's values and culture. READY! provides toys and activites that can be done together-making learning easy and fun. Children who are taught these skills at home get off to a great start at school. They start ahead and stay ahead, year after year.
Classes are held three times per year (Fall, Winter and Spring) and partcipants choose from one of five classes depending on their child's age. Each class is a 90-minute interactive lesson led by a trained instructor. The targets, materials, activities and tools used in class are yours to take home and enjoy with your child. You are your child's most powerful teacher. With READY! for Kindergaten you can help plant the seeds for success in school and a lifelong love of learning.
READY! for Kindergarten is available through the cooperative efforts of Panhandle Alliance For Education (PAFE), Lake Pend Oreille School District, and the National Children's Reading Foundation. Funding is provided by Panhandle Alliance for Education and it's community partners. The National Children's Reading Foundation and PAFE jointly administer the program.
